Although the idea of an artificial reef, for the once popular surfing destination Oil Piers Beach, located in Ventura, CA has been suggested before, overall, the plan/design was seriously lacking and the marketing strategy, if any, gained little to no support. That says a lot considering how many locals and non-locals alike wouldn’t hesitate to throw an old lady to down, just to get inline to back an artificial reef for Oilies… Today, the major advantage is that we have many lessons learned from many failed artificial reefs out there and lessons learned from a few artificial reefs that were successful. Successful by actual data collected and analyzed. Basically we have examples in which to base a new plan on that will ensure a successful outcome that benefits all, including the environment. At VooreCreative, we hope to get the ball rolling again by igniting the American spirit for innovation and vision…

With enough public support anything is possible… NEW Oily’s Reef, an #ArtificialReef constructed for under 15K using PVC, Cabling & Rock! This artificial reef will save beaches and homes built along the coast from further #beach erosion while restoring what once was a thriving habitat for the lil fishies protected by the original piers from larger predators… And least importantly 😉 this would restore a lost historical surf spot that many locals selfishly cherish… In order for this to idea to work, unlike most of the failed artificial reefs out there, the idea/plan must follow the original design of the Oil Piers to the “T”, the original pier footprint that is. Everything above the waterline matters little, so get rid of it and save cost. All 3X piers/sections would need to be re-created using the cable/pvc/rock system seen above. Even the little short pier at the other end of the beach, that we used to tell kooks to go take a long walk on, would need to be recreated. The short pier helped slow down the current and perhaps does more to bow the wave causing it’s infamous A-shape… Anyway, you get the idea… Research it! There have been successful artificial reefs built for very little investment… Somebody quick run with this, I’m not getting any younger!
